blood stains never looked so red as in the hyperpop cinemascope of made in usa, one of jean-luc GODARD’S greatest and most unseen films of the sixties now coming to screens and dvd by way of the criterion collection.
    [CONTINUED WITH TRAILER]

the movie, quickly shot during production of 2 or 3 things I know about her, stars anna karina on the run searching for her lost lover. full of guns, color, gangsters, mod dresses, and marianne faithfull singing a capella in a bar, the movie’s collage like quality inspired jonathan rosenbaum to write “it has all the electric thrill of a rauschenberg painting in motion.”godard seems to be absorbing and destroying filmic convention while having fun by allowing anna karina to break through the fourth wall with lines such as “you can fool the audience, but not me,” “we were in a political movie . . . walt disney with blood,” and “now fiction overtakes reality.”
