josh TARON: the proposal, gorgoneion, advocates the injection of a high speed rail (hsr) line into chicago as an amplification of latant protocols within the city. it assumes an aesthetic paradigm historically rooted in the history of chicago, while consciously averting mimicry of antiquated notions of urban planning. gorgoneion asks the question, “can chicago’s hsr serve as a prototype for productive logistics within anaesthetic environments, as well?” in environments where form and architecture have been subsumed into larger systems of organization as something invisible, could it not also “reappear” as something else? that we could design our cities in such a way that their atrophy or intensification would serve to evolve rather than replace existing form(s) might enable higher orders and longer durations of behavior within urban environments.
