suckerPUNCH: describe your project.
andrée-anne DUPUIS BOURRET: la débâcle is a paper installation made of 1700 silkscreen printed modules of folded papers. the project was conceptualized during my master’s degree in visual and media arts at université du québec à montréal (uqam). la débâcle takes form through many aspects of production, including an installation (modules of encasable folded papers), numeric images (as results of the installation) and stop motion animations.
images and the making of images are my starting point. by assembling and layering digital and material manipulations, i challenge the ways in which our perception is constructed by media and interfaces. i resort to various instruments of capture, graphics software and material manipulations (printing, cutting up, folding) so as to subvert the possible manifestations of images. i investigate the potential hybridization of traditional and digital techniques. my approach suggests possible links between surface and interface, image and object. the images come alive through various strategies and manipulations; they are transformed and constructed to generate structures and systems which question the biophysical constitution of nature. thus, my research aims at reflecting on the relationships between bodies and space, individuals and territories, memory and matter
