    Urban Colony
    philadelphia PENNSYLVANIA

    suckerPUNCH: describe your project.

seongbeom MO: Animal colony is an integrated autonomous biology system, a group of organism of one species that live and interact closely with each other.
Urban colony is the near future urban-scale housing which has formational potential as an autonomous entity.
Structural quality differentiation creates systematic complexity and flexibility which allow the system to be integrated both within the system and existing urban contexts.

The organizational logic in Maya hair dynamics generate an organization which is affected by present and future urban conditions such as density and flow.
The interaction of component at a local level affect to not only the whole system but also component itself.
Qualitative transformation of component strengthens the network of organization and programmatic relationship, create diversity in housing unit types, and also components has potential for becoming landscape, public spaces, and infrastructure.

^ 1st thing i thought when i saw that. it’s almost like it’s a big joke. all of the ideas mentioned in the abstract could’ve been executed without ‘maya hair’ and assumed materials which look like cheese and plastic.

whatever it is it isn’t architecture, sometimes i wonder if this blog is about eye candy or design…=/

amen.. ‘integrated both within the system and existing urban contexts?’ Come on.. Really?

Reminds me awfully lot about urban reef done at AAdrl several years ago, although it does not seem to be as rigorous.

I am not convinced about the inherent logics of maya hair. However to state that this is not architecture is a bit much.
Then what would projects like walking cities by peter cook, most projects by Hernan alonso diaz etc. be defined as.
This is a blog with place for experimental architecture, which is awesome. The images are quite Intriguing!

      thanks for a great blog
