    suckerPUNCH: describe your project.

michael KUTSCHE: In 2008 was asked to do the character design for Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”. Since all these characters were supposed to be Cg generated but had to work in a live action film with real actors, a style that was whimsical and surreal but photorealistic at the same time had to be developed; these detailed and rather finished pieces were the result.

sP: what or who influenced this project?

mK: Even if the goal was to create something fresh and contemporary, I still wanted to somehow pay tribute to the original designs by John Tenniel and Arthur Rackham.

sP: what were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?

mK: The hauntingly beautiful stop motion animated version of “Alice” by Jan Svankmajer.

sP: whose work is currently on your radar?

mK: I’ve been very much into the work of Ruprecht von Kaufmann recently.

I am trully schocked…….after hundreds of blobs ala Greg Lynn, boring meshes ala AA, nonsense architecture blabla “research”, tons of wanna be stararchitects and the list goes on……….SP shows someone who really has talent.
