LONG ISLAND CINEMA COMPETITION
Honorable Mention – $100
suckerPUNCH: describe your project.
christian RODRIGUEZ/tim DUMATRAIT : Acknowledging the obsolescence of the 20th century movie theater as a type, we focused on creating spaces for viewing movies/media that are as networked as our current experience of social media hubs on mobile platforms. Devices like the iPad create an interface through a lamination of multi-touch, image display, and emissive components. The project proposes delaminating these layers at the scale of architecture to create space for interaction from user to users, between users and media, and between media and the environment.

Paul Preissner: This entry was nice, although I feel like Ive seen this exact formal proposal too many times at this point. Still, the manner in which the volume frames the edge boundary is quite nice to look at, and the intention to allow for manipulated and varied screen arrangement and sizes I found a compelling programmatic argument for any theater moving forward.
abigail COOVER: The theater as a systemic network is a fantastic idea. In this project, this idea is clear in plan, but could be pushed further in section and three dimensions.
