FAIR FOLKS & A GOAT
7 East 88th Street NEW YORK
The presentation will remain on view from May 12 through May 30, by appointment. Email email@example.com to arrange a time.
Project: Room for Two is a modern take on the period rooms found in the Met and other museums created for the ICFF. Sam Baron and Catarina Carrieras made a series of linen curtains and throw pillows for Fair Folks & a Goat, a furniture and design store/gallery with locations in New York and New Orleans. These will be installed in the space and my paintings will be on the walls. Additionally there are mugs and teapots by Joey Roth, and Jenna Wainwright created stanchions and ropes to complete the museum effect.
suckerPUNCH: what or who influenced this project?
Timothy CAVNAR: The paintings in this show are influenced primarily by memento mori and vanitas schools of art.
sP: what were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?
tC: reading/listening/watching: Concerning just my work, I was looking at a lot of David and other Neoclassical or Romantic artists when coming up with the series. The goal was always to create pieces that were simple and direct, without becoming overly sentimental. Regarding the whole show, the focus is on floral patterns, Spring and beauty in general.
sP: whose work is currently on your radar?
tC: I recently moved to New Orleans, and am exploring the scene down there. There are two collective galleries, The Front and Good Children, who always have something interesting up, and Constance is a great blog/magazine covering what’s happening in the city.
