suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
hannibal NEWSOM: Shallow Depths is the conceptual development and exploration of possible environments. They exist beyond scale, they express depth without perspective, milieu without subject, and articulation without definition. These intricate displays are mere moments in time drawn from raging vortices of nascent worlds emerging from their primordial sludge. Life seems to lurk just beneath the aether.
Influenced by the idea of Horror Vacui, primarily as it pertains to the Victorian Era, this series was developed through meticulous material experimentation and modification: a household science experiment. From a series of hundreds of high-res photographs, a finite series of images that expressed the desired intricacy, vividness, and turbulent energy were selected and further developed through light-handed digital processing. No Color was added, only manipulated, and all colors originate from the material experimentation process. As a final phase of the project these still images were developed into digital models and then fabricated on a CNC mill.
