suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
jordan SQUIRES: This project is about converting ideas pertaining to the vehicle and the courtyard into a three-dimensional grid that would become a house in Silver Lake, California. The surfaces are constructed from the grid (not to represent the grid) so that any plan or section of the house would also have an elegant composition in the style of the original drawing. The sweeping outer wall acts as a porch, privacy wall, driveway and carport; and wraps the site in towards the reservoir and neighboring VDL house.
sP: What or who influenced this project?
jS: All my friends in studio who critique my drawings every day. Casa Garau y Agusti by Enric Miralles, Etchings and paintings by Stanley William Hayter.
sP: What were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?
jS: 50 Shades of Grey (audio book).
sP: Whose work is currently on your radar?
jS: Volkan Alkanoglu, Mark Frones and The Vary Many, New Fabrications for Architecture, Mark Foster Gage, Mario Carpo, Jeffery Weeks.
