  • PROTO/E/CO/LOGICS 002
    rovinj CROATIA

Envisioned as an open platform for rethinking increasingly complex landscape of architecture and asymptotic cultures, symposium PROTO/E/CO/LOGICS 002: The Field is Open, foregrounds the necessity for resilient bounding of global-local, generic-particular relations and transference, a navigational system for which increasingly accelerated scientific discoveries within the manifest image of the world are taken not as obstacles but as opportunities for further synthesis.

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

Sift Studio/adam FURE: In this weekend-long workshop students mixed multiplicitous material narratives through the construction of heterogeneous, saturated objects. The material palette was foreign, forcing students to develop novel potentials out of seemingly strange matter. Initial experimentation focused on the material’s latent tendencies to aggregate (how it naturally bundles, bunches, bends, and folds for example). Students tested, recorded, and codified techniques of assembly—ultimately coercing the unwieldy matter into working systems of aggregation that were supported by designed substructures.

DEDODESIGN (nunzia CARBONE, partner-in-charge; tomas LABANC, project leader; stefan WARNAAR & mincheng HUI, team members):The concept for the new Contemporary Art Museum seeks to create an iconic building on the riverfront promenade. We see the Puerto Madero district as a platform for a new urban redevelopment that reflects the latest tendencies in architectural design. We attract local and global public attention, not just for the museum itself, but for the whole area of the city, and ultimately the country.

marco VANUCCI/OPENSYSTEMS Architecture: In emergency circumstances, man’s successful fit into the hosting environment depends on the possibilities for change and adaptation within a context of conservative use of resources. The project illustrates a differentiated and performative system attempting to overcome an existing dichotomy between standardization and need for diversity and change in environmental structures. The design uses parametric design protocols to develop a semimodular system formed by the aggregation of differentiated cellular units. Each unit consists of a monocoque rigid shell and a pedestal.

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

brandon CUFFY, judy FULTON, & stacy MORTON: CoFLEXions is a responsive inflatable that creates a unique connection between the individual user, the collective, and a spatial environment. This responsive inflatable is a project that tests the implications of responsive architecture through formal and spatial means. As responsive technologies become readily accessible to architects and designers, they provide an opportunity for users to have unique agency over their spatial environments.

AmniosyA (marino MORETTI, marco CARRATELLI, fabio FORCONI, natalia GIACOMINO, lucia LUNGHI, elvira PERFETTO, lorenzo PIANIGIANI, & leonardo PILATI): The idea came up from a study on the main functions associated with research for a dynamic organism. The structure developed across a regular shape, a rectangle that from a transversal deformation ideally gives back a parallelogram. This form is self-organized and is altered in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional way, following a symmetrical order.
