  • The Dripping Table

    Seda ZIREK, The Dripping Table.
istanbul TURKEY & london UNITED KINGDOM

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

Seda ZIREK: This table is inspired by the dripstone caves, which consists of a limestone formation called stalactite. These structures hang from the ceilings of the caves. They are created by dripping mineral waters of the cave. This water leaves its minerals behind in a circular shape as it descends towards the floor of the cave. Therefore, these structures represent the vertical movement of the mineral water as a result of the gravity force. Inspired by the stalactite structures, the Dripping Table is made of legs, which are descending from the top of the table into the floor. The continuity and elegancy of this table is a result of the emergence process of this continuous and elegant movement as it is in the dripstone caves.

The Dripping Table is made of at least two or more legs. The two-leg type is mounted on the wall. The rest of the types are free standing. The top plate of the table holds the legs together. Consequently, users can change the sizes of their tables in the future by buying a new top plate with additional legs.

The Dripping Table combines the logic of manufacturing with the logic of form. This way, it accomplishes to waste minimum material during its manufacturing. It is made of several cut outs from the top plate. These cutouts are gradually rotated and attached each other using intersecting faces. Consequently, the table rises until the height needed and creates an elegant integrated spiral movement.
