Platforms for Architecture is a discussion event that brings together leaders from three different curatorial projects that focus on the production and dissemination of experimental art and architecture. Please join us in the Slocum Hall Auditorium in Syracuse, New York from noon to 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 8th for a discussion with Jimenez Lai, Jonathan Louie, Kyle Miller, Danielle Rago, and James Michael Tate that will be moderated by Anda French.

Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, the means of disseminating architectural design has varied in type, medium, and scale. From the spaces of the domestic garage to the institutionalized museum, a variety of platforms have proven to be productive in sharing new ideas and progressive design work.

Architectural designers constantly introduce and develop new design ideas that serve to highlight and promote movements, directions, and debates within and outside of the discipline of architecture. With new cultural trends and technological advancements within their reach, the youngest generation of architectural designers and thinkers are finding new territory to operate within and on. Additionally, physical spaces outside of the institution such as parking lots, bars, living rooms, and warehouses are becoming venues for design experimentation and debate.

Although there are overlaps in locations of dissemination, as well as efforts, ambitions, and interests, Platforms for Architecture is an event that highlights three discursive discussions curated by three specific groups of designers and thinkers within the last few years. These projects, each of which are led or in part led by a current faculty member at Syracuse Architecture, are individually titled Treatise, Possible Mediums, and On the Road Project LA.

Ranging from design workshops and traveling exhibitions to formal discussions and published text, each group uses specific mediums as platforms for the generation and dissemination of ideas and designs. Platforms for Architecture will share these efforts with the School of Architecture at Syracuse University and be the first instance of formal discussion with leaders from each of the three groups.
