Jason VIGNERI-BEANE: The Small World _A/A-E series is an exercise in speculative scenario design that integrates industrial design, graphics, architecture, synthetic ecological sub-urbanism and airborne electronics in an amphibious environment. . . .
It consists of an ever-unfolding collection of sectors with composite programs ranging from industrial-residential to commercial-infrastructural to informational-ecological activities. Most structures in this scenario consist of envelopes that are nested in other envelopes that are, in turn, embedded in terraformed landscapes. Structures are simultaneously alien and embedded. At the same time, the sectors are populated with and connected by swarming infrastructural entities that distribute goods and resources, monitor activities and ecologies, transfer information and act as dynamically organized partners to the embedded structures and static substrates that define the various sectors. Roads and vehicles are replaced with crawling structures. Drones silently circulate through this world to light up its spaces, to harvest its information and to maintain its materials. Plant life is strategically incorporated into the substrates of some sectors. Animal life is encouraged to enter. While this is a techno-social scenario based on logistics and performance it is also a world of co-existence and co-evolution.
