  • Architectural Graphics

    Jacob Weiss, "Rockwell meets Mies."
    newark NEW JERSEY

This course, structured as a series of 6 related lessons, revisited traditional methods of architectural representation with the goal of recuperating value in our discipline’s core craft: drawing. Each lesson tasked students with combining, juxtaposing and editing source material borrowed from architecture’s past while remaining conscious of the constraints of historical drawing conventions.

The course aimed to uncover a willful language of optimistic austerity through the use of sampling, which foregrounded questions of composition, and redrawing, which focused on the development of critical skills. The results—ranging from orthographic projection to perspectival collage—demonstrate the value of restraint while simultaneously proving the persuasive power of drawing.
