The Pratt Sessions are a new format of lecture organized by the GAUD to encourage student participation in a discussion oriented format. Seen as a “distributed symposium” each session brings together two participants; one regionally based and one non-regionally based. Participants will frame their work (or a portion of it) around a disciplinary subject/provocation. . . . The first session brings together Meejin Yoon (Principal Höweler + Yoon Architecture [Boston] and Chair, MIT) and Marcelo Spina (Principal, Patterns and Instructor, SCI-Arc)
in conversation: Meejin YOON & Marcelo SPINA.
Pratt Session 01, “Architectural Mediums”
6.00 p.m. / Higgins Hall, auditorium
61 St. James Place
Brooklyn, New York 10038
Over the course of the coming three semesters we will explore and examine how “mediums” can be defined, re-defined and understood within the realm of architectural design (subject one: Architectural Mediums) or how “contexts” can be defined, re-defined and understood within the realm of architectural design (subject two: Architectural Contexts). Each Pratt Session will commence with an introduction by myself, followed by participant presentations, discussion and Q+A. Afterward the participants, the faculty and myself will join you for an informal (beer and hot dog) reception in the gallery.
The first session brings together Meejin Yoon (Principal Höweler + Yoon Architecture [Boston] and Chair, MIT) and Marcelo Spina (Principal, Patterns and Instructor, SCI-Arc). Both participants oversee firms that have established themselves internationally, completed numerous award winning projects and are accomplished academics. Their projects derive from principles of working with representational media and/or incorporate live media interacting with an architectural environment. Invigorated speakers with cutting edge built work to support their opinions, the discussion and presentations are certain to provoke our understanding of architectural mediums.
