    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
Risa TADAUCHI: This project aims to design two mountain lodges in a mountain range in Cusco, Peru, exploring haptic experience in architecture in an extreme environment.

Both designs introduce a new definition in the landscape, questioning how mountain climbers could experience intimate comfort at an isolated location from their own defined comfort zones.

The smaller scale lodge 01 looks into a narrative based design approach corresponding to material characteristics, such as glossiness, roughness, fluffiness, and jelly-like textures. This also challenges the definition and division of isolation or personal space comparison to open quality (natural landscape). The larger scale lodge 02 contextualises the concept further using local materials, investigating a cultural junction between the city life of tourists, as well as the natural ecosystem of the Andes. This was studied through the physical comparison or material juxtaposition between softness v’s hardness, as well as artificial vs. natural materials.

The early compositional drawings explore the concept of a malleable landscape, the mapping of warmth, cold, rough surfaces and areas of soft vegetation in order to understand the site and its surrounding environment at multi-scales. The drawings study different zones of comfort and discomfort, which later extended to the geometrical and material study of the two lodge designs. The tactile physical model is to let the project participants experience the project concept (concept delivery).
