    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
Lenka PETRAKOVA: Urban Regeneration of the Jamsil Sports Complex in Seoul Competition.

Proposal for the redevelopment of the Jamsil Sports Complex in Seoul – site of the 1988 Olympic Games.

    “Urbanism: What’s the Difference?
At an urban scale comprehensive spatial strategies are increasingly untenable. Architecture’s necessary shift in focus from collective audiences to niche constituencies means that projects shaped on a conceptual field violate one’s sense of freedom. Times call for a constellation of differences; not of different objects or of different spatial fields to contain those objects but different, different things: a licentious emancipation of categories in which fields masquerade as objects and objects splinter into riotous lattices.” Andrew Zago, Studio Brief

The main interest of the project was to study translation of paintings by Jonathan Lasker to create a different spatial organization. Objects in his painting belong to defined categories and appear always in certain relationship with each other, that is giving the paintings depth and creating 3-dimensional space on the 2-dimensional canvas. In the urban context, the main target was to create a series of frames within the Sport Complex to allow visitors to get emerged in space. All the entities are always interacting with each other all the time considering the guidance frames from paintings. All of these interactions can be read as happening independently of human presence but they are obvious just once they are experienced by a human.
