    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
    Ashley HICKMAN: This project is a 1.5 million square foot expansion to the existing Las Vegas Convention Center. The project consists of a single story of mundane, regular column gridded, uninterrupted flexible exhibit space, broken only by the crashing through of follies from above.

    The follies are varied in size, shape, and the manner in which they break up the mundane convention center space. Some poke just their feet through, others crash through the roof. Their particular coloring is meant to at times camouflage their precense and at others contrast with the tan convention space. These follies distribute all additional programmatic requirements such as meeting rooms, ballrooms, and bathrooms throughout the convention hall.

    AH: This project was influenced by 2D Physics Engine Unity / Seth Price / Cheryl Donegan / Bernard Tschumi’s Parc de la Villette / John Hedjuk’s “victims” /
    Zago’s Arup office.
