Can you tell us the cross streets for the site of our proposal. I know it says Hudson Yards but does that also include the Jacob Javits Center as its neighbor which we’re re-planning ?
The site includes the space over Hudson Yards, the space occupied by the Jacob Javits Center (to be removed or integrated into a new proposal), and the pier directly to the West of the Javits site. See the diagram HERE for reference.
Is the competition is open to everyone or just specific people?
The casino competition is an open competition, so any and everyone is allowed to participate, provided they register prior to the deadline and in the manner outlined in the brief.
In the second paragraph of the brief you state, “This competition asks entrants to leave the convention center at its current location on Manhattan’s West Side, but replace it and add a hotel and casino to the complex.” Are supposed to leave the Jacob Javits Center and add to it, or demolish it completely and design the hotel/casino in its place?
By leaving the convention center at Manhattan’s West Side we mean a convention center in general, not the specific, current JJC. We’re proposing the convention center as building type remains a part of Manhattan’s West Side instead of moving to Queens, as recently proposed, but that the convention center is joined with a new hotel and casino. That said, there is no requirement to leave the JJC nor use it as part of your design. Simply, the center can be removed if desired or reused as you see fit.
Do you require entrants design individually or as a group? How many persons can a group consist of?
We do not require entrants to design individually. Simply, both individual and group entries are accepted and within the bounds of the competition. There is presently no limit for group members allowed to contribute to an entry, but note that one entry is all that is allowed per registration and the submission requirements remain the same whether for a group or individual.
The brief states that the land the JJC is on, the hole that is the train yard, and the pier are part of the site. There is also a lot (hole) between the train yard and the JJC that is currently an 18 wheeler parking lot as well as where the high line part 3 terminates. Is this also part of the site we can design for, being as its between the JCC and the train yard?
The small lot you mentioned—at the terminus of the High Line—will also be a part of the site intended for the Casino/Convention Center.
Am I ineligible to compete in the competition if I have worked for or studied under some of the judges? Is this an anonymous competition?
All entries will be anonymous—that is, denoted by no more than a 5-digit entrant number—so work or study under any of the jury does not bar participation in the competition. However, any call out of your identity in your submission—your name, photo, or other personal information—will result in disqualification.
Does the package include any CAD drawings and or a 3D site model?
The competition package includes the following, usually sent one or two business days following registration: dimensioned CAD plan; 3-D model of site and immediate surrounding context; aerial photo; site photos and panoramas; any relevant zoning information.
