  • Can you explain in a little more detail what kinds of robots you are looking for in your competition? Is this an open entry for any type of robot, or are there more guidelines for the build? Are there any requirements that need to be met in regards to the robot itself?

The suckerPUNCH Robot Workshop Competition is an architectural ideas competition meant to create a collection of spaces for research, fabrication, education in robotics. Any robots included in proposals should serve the architectural, spatial, or conceptual ends hinted at the competition brief. While suckerPUNCH does not in any way discourage the design and integration of robots and robotic technologies in architectural proposals for the Robot Workshop, proposals should be exactly that—architectural. The only requirements that need to be met have to do with the process and content of submissions, outlined in the “///entryREQUIREMENTS” section of the competition brief.

Are we restricted to the exact building site? Is the rest of the lot available for construction?

Please use the site dimensions included in the project documentations as the buildable area for your proposal. How this space is addressed is open to interpretation, but please work within those boundaries.

What is the turnaround time on the project documentation and a 5 digit identification number email once you have registered?

Project documentation and identification numbers should be sent within two business days of registration. If project documentation and 5 digit identification are not received, please contact competitions@suckerpunchdaily.com.

Are entries restricted to the required formats, or are cinematic films and/or programs (be it through Processing or otherwise) allowed? Can we include more images/renderings/diagrams than are stated on the submittal requirements?

Certainly. Keep in mind that materials must also be represented with two [2] 18 x 24” boards. That said, in addition to what is outlined in the competition brief, entrants can include any representation they see fit—be it video, or otherwise.
