Karls Platz I & II are two unsubmitted proposals which were worked out for the competition for a new museum at the historic Karlsplatz in Vienna. Both proposals make are based on the same decision to arrange the museum program over three large floor slabs. Both proposals are partially based on the repetition of a single, discrete element which is then assembled into a highly differentiated building.
Villa D or “Diamonds” is a project for a multi-family residence in Wemmel, a suburbian village just outside of Brussels. The typology of a multi-family villa is foreign to Belgium, where most people live in single-family homes.

Gilles Retsin Architecture: The proposal consists of 278 standardized, engineered-timber elements which combine together into a highly differentiated spatial assembly. These elements can be understood as large-scale LEGOs; a similar male-female connection defines their assembly. This results in an architecture that is fundamentally discrete or “digital” in its physical-material organization.
