    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

MAST (ivar HEGGHEIM, jon ANDERSEN, rasmus MØLLER, & mads m. ANDERSEN): Vaaler kirke: contemporary spiritual spaces.

In this project we focused on how to design a contemporary sacred space. While considering social, cultural and historic dimensions.
We transformed the 2 dimensional draped ornaments from the baroque into 3-D draping of the ceiling. This simple geometry in combination with the texture of the wooden shingles creates ambience, rhytm and playful effects. The daylight connects and underline the soft and heavy draping of the roof. The Church is entirely made out of timber – from the loadbearing construction to the roof and facades cladded with wood shingles.

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

MAST (ivar HEGGHEIM, jon ANDERSEN, rasmus MØLLER, & mads m. ANDERSEN): It is a playful way to exterior and interior. the exterior is textured with an array of panels with flaps and apertures the interior is a soft and furry dome structure. The Installation is structured around two main toruses & three minor toruses that create the arches. The cross section cuts of the main toruses create the voids (entrance). Light permeates through the crevices of each element. The hair is both responding to underlying formal features, & underlining the character of the pavilion seen from a distance and enhancing the way the visitors engage with the soft interior.

    Concept & Technology
The overall approach is driven by the site-specific requirements of Sarapiqui: demanding minimum interference with the surroundings, yet establishing a clear visual interaction with the jungle. Given the context; a protected national park, the main design challenge is how to create a building that can integrate into the atmospheric layers of the Jungle while simultaneously leaving a minimal footprint in terms off tear & wear on the forest. A lightweight and light permeable façade principle came up ad the solution. The Building is highly sustainable & at the same time the façade is emphasizing the particular atmosphere of the jungle.

MAST: The overall geometry is driven by the attributes of the chimney, the formal structural qualities of the cone and the organic nature of the hair, by this juxtaposition a ‘character’ to state the relation to the Mocca context is pursued.

The Mocca Museum as a highly flexible exhibitions space is informed by the program and the sun pattern.
