    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

Annie McCARTHY: The design of a new Cooper Union vertical campus challenges notions of extrusion of floor plates in the tower typology by thinking of both formal and programmatic organization as discrete chunks. How can Cooper Union situate itself in a vertical context, and how does that relate to formal chunking in a tower? In fact, it is in a similar way to how Cooper Union organizes itself in current lateral relationships in the Manhattan grid—on the cusp of two colliding grids.

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

jordan SQUIRES: This project is about converting ideas pertaining to the vehicle and the courtyard into a three-dimensional grid that would become a house in Silver Lake, California. The surfaces are constructed from the grid (not to represent the grid) so that any plan or section of the house would also have an elegant composition in the style of the original drawing. The sweeping outer wall acts as a porch, privacy wall, driveway and carport; and wraps the site in towards the reservoir and neighboring VDL house.

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

suky HO: My project addresses having two different facade based on site condition of the East and West elevations. I want to build a connection to the surrounding site, yet also maintain a sense of individuality. I was most interested in how the site is exposed to the public on the East (Edgewater Terrace) and West (Silver Lake Blvd.) elevations. There are different characteristics’ among Edgewater Terrance and Silver Lake Blvd. that I addressed in my project as well as how it relates to Richard Neutra VDL House which sits on the North elevation.
