suckerPUNCH: describe your project.
jerry CHANG: in architecture a plinth is a base or platform upon which a structure rest. according to semper, the plinth exists to negotiate between a structure and the ground, and becomes the connection and filter between city and structure, interior and exterior. this project explores this idea of interior and exterior filtering through the topological form of manifold skin. the idea focuses on the inversion between the skin and surface and interior and exterior.
the project also begins to look into how this system will adapt to program and structure. the adaptive surface will be utilized in a way to transform space to a new form which is determined by the requirements of the program. distinctive components produce different programs and systems of skin and structure.
