    suckerPUNCH: describe your project.

kevin COOLEY: The goal of this project was  to spend one month in  Siglufjörður , the most northern town and one of the most remote areas in Iceland photographing the remarkable light they have there in the winter time.  I was also working on Natural Forces a long term video project about the classic elements of water, earth, fire, and wind and our struggles as humans to live among these forces.

sP: what or who influenced this project?

kC: a previous project I had done in Longyearbyen, Svalbard the most northern town in the world.  I visited Longyearbyen immediately following the end of polar night where light begins to shine  on the town after four long months of nothing but darkness

sP: what were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?

kC: I was reading Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment,  a few Jack London stories including “To Build a Fire” and listening to Sigur Rós (Their music makes so much more sense in the icelandic winter)

sP: whose work is currently on your radar?

kC: I’m really into David Caspar Friedrich at moment and David Lynch – I’m currently rewatching Twin Peaks for the third time
