suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
Niccolò CASAS: The project is a proposal for the “Hands on door handles” competition organized by Designboom and Colombo Design. Symbiosis is a form of interaction between different biological species and Parasitism is a specific type of symbiotic relationship between organism of different species where one organism, the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other, the host. The handle is the result of an interaction between an host – the handle itself and a parasite organism. The parasite interact with the host through a redefinition of his system and an adaptation to the host structure.
The result is a new organism emerging from the interaction between parasite and host and the substitution of a lower for a higher form of structure. The aesthetic of a Symbiotic organism is the emergence of a process of de.formation and de.generation of systems interacting and producing inflections and anomalies. Symbiosis overcomes the notions of beauty, style, and elegance – it evokes ugliness, decay and sublime.
