suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
handan YALKI: This project represents my thesis for the “Excessive” postgraduate program at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, 2012. The aim was to design a new train station for Vienna by reinterpreting the existing Westbahnhof station.
Influenced by the wrapping effect of fire dancing and isolation, the project is all about the integration of the structure and the surface. With the sense of torturing each other, formed geometries perform as to lead people into the flow and experience the quality, the quality of defining precision of an unprecise form.
sP: What or who influenced this project?
hY: Fire Poi, motion, concentric flow, isolation effect of fire, foraminifera, radiolarians, fashion, Hernan Diaz Alonso, Steven Ma, Guo Pei, Alexander McQueen, Ross Lovegrove.
sP: What were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?
hY: Reading and watching a lot about nature, fashion, artworks. Listening to all kinds of music.
sP: Whose work is currently on your radar?
hY: Xefirotarch, Greg Lynn, Morphosis, Jennifer Mccurdy, Fenella Elms, Kate McDowell, Matias Del Campo, Ross Lovegrove.
