  • Log 29: In Pursuit of Architecture.
    new york NEW YORK

Given the social, economic, environmental, and even media demands on architecture today, how are architectural ideas sustained beyond conception to become buildings? In a special, tenth anniversary issue, Log 29: In Pursuit of Architecture presents ten outstanding architectural projects from the past decade—some well-known, others completely new—in a full-color portfolio format that illustrates the concepts and processes of each building. Selected from an open call for work built since 2003, these buildings illustrate a range of architectural ideas, and together open a conversation about the production and significance of architecture today. reiser+umemoto: We propose a dynamic 3-dimensional urbanism that takes advantage of the site’s unique lateral positioning with respect to the city grid. Existing public pedestrian flows along the proposed elevated boardwalk can be amplified, rather than interrupted by creating a continuous elevated public esplanade along the waterfront. Cruise and ferry functions, meanwhile, are located just below the public level and are kept distinct to maintain secure areas for departing/arriving passengers.

    suckerPUNCH: describe your project.

reiser + umemoto: pop music, while a global phenomenon, is regional in its definition. the taiwanese pop music scene typifies the phenomenon; while it crosses borders and cultures and dialects, it nevertheless has produced styles and genres with distinct transnational form and appeal. though many aspects of pop culture exist in a hyper-technological or virtual realm, there is a need for a defined physical hub dedicated to the production and reception of pop.
